Health and Safety Audits

Health and Safety Audits are an implicit requirement of health and safety law. The Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 require all organisations with 5 or more employees to have documented arrangements for the:
  • Planning
  • Organisation
  • Control
  • Monitoring and
  • Review
of health and safety measures. Audits are a key management tool, and fulfil the requirement for monitoring and review of health and safety arrangements. Audits are also an important tool within a health and safety management system - whether the system used is based on HS(G)65, OHSAS18001, BS8800 or the ILO Health & Safety Management System model (all of these are different models for managing health and safety, but all based on the same principles of PLAN - DO - CHECK - ACT).

Phoenix Health and Safety can assist with all of your health and safety audit requirements - whether it is an initial health check of a new business, a gap analysis of an existing business to to determine where they are, or an external check on the systems implemented by an internal health and safety practitioner or professional.

Contact us now for an informal discussion on how we can help.

Workplace Health and Safety Risk Assessments

All organisations with 5 or more employees are legally required to carry out risk assessments of their activities. The risk assessments are required by law (the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999) to be suitable and sufficient and follow a five step approach:

1. Identify the hazards (only significant hazards need be identified - trivial hazards can be ignored)
2. Identify the people that could be harmed by the hazards
3. Evaluate the level of risk (considering the likelihood and potential severity of harm). Determine what control measures are currently in place, and how effective they are.
4. Record the significant findings.
5. Keep the assessment under regular review, and update as and when required.

Certain hazards require a specific kind of risk assessment, including:
Phoenix Health and Safety can help with all your risk assessment requirements. We can advise you and provide forms, templates and support or we can even do the risk assessments for you! Our expert health and safety consultants will be only too happy to help.

Risk assessments can also be incorporated into our health and safety support contracts.

Please contact us for an informal discussion of how we can help.

Competent Health and Safety Person Service

All UK businesses are legally required to have access to "competent" health and safety advice (as stipulated in the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999). This can be either from within the organisation, or via external health and safety consultants.

Whichever route you choose, Phoenix Health and Safety can help:

1. If you decide to provide the competent health and safety advice internally, we can provide adequate training e.g. the IOSH Managing Safely course, or a NEBOSH Certificate course.
2. If you decide to use external help, we offer full "competent health and safety person" support contracts.

Using only the very best health and safety consultants and health and safety trainers, you can be assured that competence is guaranteed!

Delegate Feedback on our London NEBOSH Courses

Our NEBOSH courses in London remain tremendously popular. Yesterday, we received the following comments from a delegate who recently finished a course:

"Please can you forward my thanks to (the tutor) and the team for all the good work that he and the rest of you have done with regard to the course that I have just attended.

Although the course was very intense, at times, I found it to be very enlightening and as each day went on I became more and more interested. (The tutor's) method of teaching was very very good and not too technical, he had everybody's attention and I found him to be a very interesting person, with regard to his own personal knowledge and what he was teaching us.
He put us all at ease, especially as the exam dates were getting closer, so much so that I felt very comfortable when taking the exams.

Again my thanks to you all."

Manual Handling Training

The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 require all organisations to:
  1. Elimimate the risks of manual handling where possible
  2. Carry out a risk assessment of any manual handling risks that cannot be eliminated
  3. Reduce the levels of risk to the lowest levels possible
This last step is likely to include providing manual handling training to any staff required to lift, carry or handle goods or equipment.

Phoenix Health & Safety can help with manual handling training in one of two ways:

Option 1 would be to have one of our expert health and safety consultants on site to deliver a half day manual handling training course for your staff. The short course would include practical elements, and would be tailored to your organisation and the things your staff are required to lift.

Option 2 would be to put staff through our manual handling e-learning course. This is a short web-based course that staff can complete in their own time. It includes an assessment and the facility to print off a certificate of achievement.

Please contact us if you are interested in either option.
